I have an interest in the profession of journalism and specifically in the school of Annenberg because the skillsets developed in journalism are undoubtedly irreplaceable and beneficial to any discipline or career.
My interest in journalism primarily stemmed from my long rooted curiosity. As a kid I could never mind my own business. I was constantly questioning every rule, regulation, decision and theory. I could never sit in a classroom for long; I loved being outside and exploring. Journalism is one of the few career paths that allows me to continue being that kid, only with new tools, gadgets, technologies, and a platform to share my voice with others. My ultimate goal in journalism is to graduate from law school and eventually have my own television show that would break down complex concepts of law, and make them easily understandable to regular people. I want this show to inform people of their rights as a US Citizen (which surprisingly a lot of people don't know), to offer a fun and engaging entertainment twist, and to give citizens an open platform to ask questions that could help them to navigate a world like our current and progressing one.
I love speaking publicly, being in front of the camera, and traveling to new places. Journalism has been more of an outlet to me than an assignment. My interests in the field include reporting, hosting, in front of the camera work and even producing. I do feel it has been very insightful to learn a lot of behind the scenes work. My goals are to continue to find new ways I can contribute to the progressing world of journalism and to improve in journalistic regions I am lacking. I don't see myself being a local anchor or a reporter for a long period of time, but I would love to engage in that realm of journalism to build new skill sets to contribute to my long term vision. In the long run I hope to create a non-profit organization that gives youth around the world the opportunity to travel abroad and learn how to document and share their stories.
I don't consider myself to be a traditional journalism student in the sense that I don't see my career ending with anchoring or reporting, but I like to think of myself as the "rainbow fish" of the journalism group. I have a lot to offer, I am ready to soak in as much information as possible, and I can contribute 100% of myself to this 4-year experience, and more specifically to this class.
I want to be an Annenberg Journalism Student because if I could even begin to carry myself, think, write, speak and film like a journalist, I can successfully fulfill many goals in my future, and I have so much to contribute to the Annenberg school as well as the field of journalism.
I'll wait for an applause...
